Professor Peter Lloyd had a 40 year career as an academic geographer. He was a teacher and researcher at the Universities of Queensland, Manchester and finally Liverpool where he was Professor of Urban Geography, Head of the Department of Geography and Dean of the Faculty of Social and Environmental Studies. He is co-author of Location in Space and Modern Western Society and has published over 100 academic papers.
Over two decades he directed a series of university research units in the North West (NWIRU, CURID and CRED) - working with and advising government departments on economic development and skills policy. Leaving the university sector he was seconded to Enterprise PLC (formerly Lancashire Enterprises). From 2003-2012 he was a Technical Director at Ecorys UK Ltd with responsibility for its European Policy Division. He continues both to manage his own business Peter Lloyd Associates and to act as an expert advisor to the European Commission and the OECD - contributing academic advice on a range of regional development, skills and higher education policies.
