Functional skills are the essential Maths, English and ICT (information and communication technology) skills we all need to manage our personal and professional lives.
Why are functional skills important to me?
Almost every job requires from us the ability to:
- communicate and use numbers confidently
- problem solve
- use technology effectively
Here at Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC) we offer functional skills to:
- Young people aged between 15 and 18 - at our Gateway Campus
- Adult students aged 19 and over - at our Seasiders Learning Centre.
Which functional skills courses are available?
Functional skills are available across five levels:
- Entry 1
- Entry 2
- Entry 3
- Level 1
- Level 2
B&FC offers a range - but not all - of the functional skills courses available.
We've included a list of all the B&FC functional skills courses below.
Which functional skills course is right for me?
Before you start a functional skills course with B&FC we will have a chat with you to understand which courses work best for your situation.
That means you'll get exactly the functional skills needed, and get started at the right level.
Beyond functional skills
Once you've completed your Functional Skills qualifications you may wish to put your knowledge to the test and sit GCSE qualifications.
While Functional Skills recognise how you use what you've learned in every day situations, GCSEs test your academic ability.
Just like Functional Skills, GCSEs are a really useful qualification for your CV and help open doors to employment opportunities.
And you can get your English or Maths GCSE with B&FC!
