Cancellation of exams during national lockdown

Published on 06/01/2021 by DTHACK

Following the government’s publication of its decision that the choice of whether or not to run on-site technical and professional examinations in January and February sits with individual schools and colleges.

Having given this due consideration, B&FC has taken the decision to cancel all scheduled on-site examinations and formal assessments until mid-February, the anticipated end of the current lockdown.

We will keep this under close review for those qualifications which require professional, statutory and regulatory body assessments for adult students who will shortly progress to become critical workers. If these exams and assessments take place on-site, all participants will be expected to arrive at least an hour in advance and undertake to COVID-19 lateral flow test. Only those students testing negative will be allowed to proceed to the assessment / examination in line with our risk assessments.

Awarding bodies, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual), which regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England, and the Department for Education have confirmed students unable to take examinations or practical assessments will either be able to take their assessment at a later date.

If that is not possible, awarding bodies will put in place arrangements to ensure no student is disadvantaged.

This remains a fast-moving situation and we appreciate the patience and support of students and families whilst we work closely with awarding bodies and other stakeholders to help every B&FC student achieve the best possible outcome.

Please note: Higher Education online exams are NOT affected and are running as planned. If you have any questions, please contact your Programme Leader directly.
