Course Overview

This apprenticeship provides those already employed by the UK construction industry with a recognised qualification to aid career progression within painting and decorating and/or further learning. Designed to develop and recognise your skills, knowledge and competence, the course enables you to train in preparing all types of surfaces, and learn about different types of paints and how to apply them. You will develop skills in applying standard papers to ceilings and walls, producing specialist decorative finishes and spraying with HVLP equipment. You will also develop skills in health, safety and welfare, essential for the CSCS card and to pursue the wide range of employment opportunities available in this sector.

Entry Requirements

There are no particular entry requirements for this apprenticeship. However, an employer will expect you to have a keen interest in painting and decorating, and be able to demonstrate a 'can do' attitude. You should have a basic level of numeracy and literacy, which you will develop further on this course.

We will invite you to attend an interview, when we will provide advice and guidance about the job role and qualification. You will also need to undertake initial assessments in maths and English.

You need to be working at least 30 hours a week in an occupation relevant to your chosen apprenticeship and be at least 16 years old. If necessary, our Skills and Business Team can support to find a suitable role (we often have a good selection of employers looking to recruit an apprentice).
