Course Overview

This visually exciting and technically demanding course will encourage you to stretch your creative boundaries using both traditional and cutting edge processes. Supported by our team of dedicated, specialist staff you will explore fashion, portraiture, landscape and experimental genres of photography to help you identify your future career direction.

In our fully equipped darkroom you’ll be introduced to the essential elements of photographic practice and also get the chance to experiment with different cameras and a range of creative lighting techniques in our studio spaces.

Fundamentally, the course will open your eyes to photography as a challenging and thought-provoking medium which offers a unique channel for creative expression. It will also ensure you develop the technical competencies to build your confidence as a professional photographer or prepare you for higher level study.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above  including English Language and one of the following - Art, Design, Graphics or Photography.   Alternatively, a relevant Level 2 Diploma at Merit plus English Language at grade C.

Qualification Obtained

Extended Diploma in Art and Design (QCF)

Essential Skills – English and Maths

If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will be working on practical assignments where you will be producing photography work, with a wide variety of techniques. In addition you will be given the opportunity to investigate experimental approaches to your work, combining a wide range of techniques. You will be expected to research, plan, explore, develop, produce and then evaluate your ideas and you will have the chance to show off your work at the exciting end of year exhibition.
