Modules may include:

  • Customer service in travel and tourism
  • The UK travel and tourism industry
  • Knowledge about airports and airlines
  • Career planning for travel & tourism
  • Travel and tourism destinations

Essential skills: English and Maths

All school leavers at B&FC are encouraged to continue developing their English and maths skills as higher ability in both these subjects is linked to long-term career success and increased earning potential - irrespective of how well you performed at GCSE. If, however, you achieve a GCSE Grade 3 or less in either subject, you will also have the opportunity to work towards re-sitting these to enhance your paper-based qualifications. This won’t delay your career journey because you will be undertaking this programme of study at the same time as your chosen subject.

Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers

Guest speakers are an integral part of the course as we want you to be able to relate to the sector you are planning on working in and hearing about job roles, opportunities and experiences of others will help you to build on your understanding of your career and what lies ahead.

Work experience and/or placement is a mandatory element within your course and you will be expected to undertake and complete a minimum number of hours as required - these will be confirmed in advance during your first week on course. Work experience and/or work placement will be sourced and arranged by the College through our experienced placement team!

Field trips will be available to you.  these will be confirmed by the teaching team along with any important information such as costs etc. and any trips will count towards your assessment.

How will I learn?

We are a friendly, supportive, and highly experienced team of business and travel & tourism lecturers. Our students consistently praise the support and teaching we provide, and we are immensely proud of this.

We will guide and support you through each module and assessment in our comfortable and well-equipped classrooms. You will have approximately 18 hours of timetabled lessons per week which will include a variety of engaging activities designed to develop your business skills and knowledge alongside your Maths and English development.

Typical activities in lessons include discussions, group work, practical demonstrations, quizzes and presentations. Specialist speakers will also join some of your sessions to bring the ‘real’ world of business directly to you.

As a B&FC student, you will have access to the Microsoft Office 365 suite through your student account, which you will be able to use remotely from home and in college, to access all the lesson materials, develop your business skills and communicate with your Tutors.

Your Tutors will also integrate a range of interactive technologies into their lessons to enhance your learning experience. You will also be expected to undertake a minimum of 2 hours per week of private study outside of timetabled sessions as required to ensure you meet course deadlines.

Expert tutors

All tutors involved in the delivery of adult courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver.

Our recruitment process ensures that tutors delivering a given programme are suitably qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. The aim of this is to enrich our students’ learning experience and enable them them to get the inside track on what working in the industry is really like.

How will I be assessed?

How will I be assessed?

Students will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence for each unit which demonstrates their understanding of what has been taught. This could take the form of written assignments, tutor-observed presentations, peer group discussions and  worksheets . This work will be internally assessed and graded according to the grading structure provided by the awarding body.

Throughout the programme, tutors will provide both formal and informal feedback to allow students to improve their work and hopefully achieve higher grades. Whilst short form tests may be used to check student knowledge and understanding, there are no formal exams on the programme and all grades are based on coursework.
