The Active IQ Level 3 Personal Training Diploma (REPS/ CIMSPA accredited) has been designed to provide candidates with all the knowledge, understanding and skills required to work in this field. This blended learning course features a range of ActiveIQ eLearning activities and B&FC tutor-led workshops to equip you with the necessary expertise to allow you to build a sustainable and rewarding career. All students who achieve the L3 Personal Training course at B&FC are guaranteed an interview at JD Gym Blackpool who endorse our programme. The course delivery is primarily through the ActiveIQ eLearning package but students will benefit from a range of tutor-led workshops and assessments requiring you to attend the college at set times. You will be provided with further details and a programme timetable at interview. Please be aware that the majority of this course requires your personal independent study through a range of eLearning activities. Entry Requirements This programme has been designed for those aged 19 and over who wish to pursue a career in the fitness industry. You will be invited for interview where you will have the opportunity to determine whether this course is right for you. As you will be delivering personal gym-based training it is essential that you maintain an appropriate level of personal fitness both to complete the course and deliver the training itself. There are some mandatory requirements before you will be offered a place on the course. These include A Level 2 Certificate in gym instructing (which is available at the College) A knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology. All applicants will be required to take an anatomy and physiology refresher before enrolling on the course. Learners should have or be working towards level 2 maths and English, all students will be required to undertake a maths and English diagnostic assessment. Qualification ObtainedDiploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training Industry Placement and Field TripsWork placement is not compulsory on this course. However, we recommend that you complete a work placement to see how the skills that you will learn are put to use. Throughout the course students will have the opportunity to visit local gyms to meet owners, managers and other fitness professionals. There may be a small charge if students wish to participate in fitness sessions. Learning and Teaching Methods This programme will be underpinned by individual/self-study time out of the College learning environments. The E-learning component of the course plays a major part in your development and achievement and will be accessed via the Active IQ platform for independent study and learning. Students will be expected to undertake a minimum of 100 hours of independent study. Within the curriculum we also use a range of on-line apps and Teams to support, enhance and motivate learning. Your tutors will be support you with new technologies used in the classroom. Your tutors will support you in preparing for your examinations alongside your own responsibility for your learning. At Blackpool and The Fylde College we recognise that all students learn differently and for some it may be a return to education following a break from formal learning. Our tutors will work with you to ensure that their teaching methods support the way that you like to learn. One key teaching and learning method is the delivery of practical workshops. These may be scheduled on Wednesday evenings, weekends or other times dependent on requirements. The course tutor will provide more details at interview. Your tutors will ensure that demonstrations are used whenever possible so you can see the practical skill being used so you can then practice the skill. You will work collaboratively with your peers in group work, presentations and within practical sessions. There will also be visits from local gym managers who recruit personal trainers providing advice and support about how to gain employment and opportunities for progression in the field Assessment MethodsThe following shows what mandatory units you will complete as well as how these are assessed. 1. Level 3 Understanding lifestyle, health, well-being and common medical conditions (17%) Internal assessment through portfolio. 4. Level 3 Encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients (16%) Internal assessment through portfolio. 5. Level 3 Programme design and delivery for personal training (17%) Internal assessment through tutor observation 6. Level 3 Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers (16%) Internal assessment through portfolio. A range of workbooks, ELearning activities, practical assessments and 1-2-1 tutorials. Some units are assessed through a multiple choice theory papers, others through assignment project tasks and various units are assessed through practical observations within a gym environment Other Costs and Equipment NeededAll students will be expected to provide their own stationery, to include: pens, notepad and an A4 folder. Replacement ID badges will be at a cost of £3 or £8 if incorporated with a bus pass. For photocopying, students are provided with the first 80 black and white free of charge. Any additional copies for black and white are charged at 4p per copy. Field trips to local gym may be arranged, this may incur a small charge if students wish to participate in any fitness sessions. An enrichment calendar will be made available at the start of the academic year. There will be a wide variety of opportunities for participation, however, these are not mandatory. Career opportunities as a personal trainer for gym based exercise exist in a variety of settings, including: gyms/leisure centres/sports clubs independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings hotels and spas All students completing this course are guaranteed a job interview. This course carries 32 UCAS points and, along with relevant industry experience, can lead to a degree-level programme.
