Cultural Leadership Skills Bootcamp
Summary
The primary objective of this 10-week part-time Cultural Leadership Bootcamp is to provide candidates with the knowledge, skills, practice and behaviours to then work confidently within a cultural development role at management/strategic level.
The course will provide candidates with opportunities to establish connections with individuals and organisations also working within the cultural field that may lead to career progression at a strategic/management level. Each session will be led by an industry expert specifically chosen for expertise and knowledge in their chosen field.

Career progression
Candidates will develop strategic and collaborative leadership skills, knowledge, practice and behaviours to enable them to work more effectively in their workplace at a strategic/management level.
These skills will also provide opportunity to establish connections with other individuals and small and large organisations working in the cultural field that may lead to career progression opportunities at a strategic/management level.

Entry Requirements
This course is designed for candidates who are aged 19 and over and are employed, self-employed or leading a business or cultural project and have 2-3 years experience in the industry and are ready to join a strategic/management level conversation but do not yet have the knowledge, skills, practice and developed behaviours to do so.

Programme is free for self-employed and individuals aged 19 and over who meet entry requirements.
Employer contribution of £345 for candidates from small medium enterprises (250 staff or less).
Employer contribution of £1035 for candidates from levy businesses (more than 250 staff).
Extra costs and equipment
College campus parking for students - £2 per day.
What will I learn?
The course consists of the following sessions:
- Cultural Strategy Development – overview of current local and regional cultural priorities
- Strategic visitor economy initiatives – case study approach to effective collaborative leadership
- Communities of Practice – developing your collaborative and inclusive leadership practice
- Strategic regeneration and overview of current local and regional ambitions, priorities and plans
- Strategic health initiatives including local and regional priorities and how cultural leadership can contribute
- Leading for a sustainable future towards carbon neutrality
- Permaculture and regenerative development models
- Collaborative communication strategies – developing cross-sector advocacy
- Exploring cultural governance models
- Seeking and winning strategic funding opportunities
- Residential (mandatory) – go and observe best practice beyond Blackpool
Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers
Overnight residential – visit to a town/city that has made significant progress with cultural strategy development. The cost of this residential is covered by course fees.
How will I learn?
Each session consists of a 1-hour directed presentation delivered by an industry expert followed by 1-hour open and collaborative discussion. A 3-hour workshop then follows that consists of a 2-hour consolidated learning period, providing papers and learning materials for future sessions and then a 1-hour independent study period.
A 15 hour overnight residential at the end of the course will provide candidates with a visit to a town/city that has made significant progress with their own cultural strategy development.
How will I be assessed?
No formal assessment, although individual learner development will be measured by Skills Scan at the beginning and end of programme.
