Education and Training Diploma (DET) - Level 5

The Diploma in Education and Training Level 5 can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers and trainers, this includes:
- If you are not currently teaching and training but can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements of the qualification.
- If you are currently teaching and training, including those who have just begun teaching and training and who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements of the qualification.
- If you are currently working as an assessor and you wish to achieve a teaching qualification and who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice of the qualification.
This course is one day a week – 4.30pm – 8.00pm plus e-learning and independent study. As the course spreads over 18 months, the timetable is interspersed with study periods to allow you to reflect on your teaching and learning methods.
You must have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in your chosen subject area although some areas will require you to have a relevant honours degree.
You must be able to access a minimum of 100 hours of teaching practice and have the support of a named mentor.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Delivery is by presentations, workshops, student participation and observations.

All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
