Deep Tissue Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage

Summary

This course introduces you to the key techniques and principles required to provide a relaxing and therapeutic massage for the back, neck and shoulders. Whether you want to add this to an existing portfolio of beauty therapy skills, pursue a career exclusively in massage therapy or simply learn these techniques for the benefit of family and friends, this is the programme for you.

Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve the build up of tension in the muscles and is especially beneficial in areas such as the neck and shoulders where tension can quickly develop.  The course will give you an essential understanding of the structure and function of the muscles in the back, neck and shoulders as well as teaching you a range of massage techniques which will help you soothe the muscles and release specific knots. You'll learn about passive stretching to increase flexibility and relieve tightness as well as techniques to stimulate circulation.

Importantly, you will be taught about when massage is contraindicated and how to adapt your technique for specific conditions and injuries. The importance of building a rapport with your client and creating a suitable space in which to carry out treatment will also be discussed as will self-care for the therapist to minimise the risk of injury or strain whilst giving a treatment.

You will have plenty of opportunity to practise your new-found skills under the supervision of a highly experienced tutor and be ready to start massaging in either a personal or professional setting at the end of the programme.
