Introduction to Principles of Criminology - Level 2

Summary

Ever wondered why people commit crimes or how justice really works? This six-week course is the perfect starting point for anyone curious about the world of crime and punishment. You’ll be introduced to the principles of criminology while picking up practical study skills that will help you succeed in further education.

No previous experience? No problem! Everything is taught in a supportive and welcoming environment, so you can build confidence as you learn. Over the six weeks, you’ll explore big questions like What causes crime? and How do societies respond to it? all while developing research, writing, and critical thinking skills.

This course is ideal for anyone with a keen interest in crime who wants to take their first steps into this exciting and fast-changing field. When you finish, you’ll have the chance to progress onto a foundation year (Year Zero) Criminology and Criminal Justice qualification or even the Foundation Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Blackpool and The Fylde College.

Career progression

Students will gain insights in to aspects of criminology and criminal justice sector and can use this qualification to progress on to Level 3 Access to HE Policing and Criminal Justice and/or on the FdA (foundation degree) Criminology and Criminal Justice at Blackpool and the Fylde college

Whilst many adult courses are fully funded for 19+ learners, funding can depend both on the course itself and/or the learner's personal circumstances, including their current income levels and previous qualifications.
