The BA (Hons) in Mental Health and Resilience provides the continued opportunity for you to critically engage with contemporaneous topics relating to practice in mental health settings such as risk management. and the promotion of positive risk taking. The top-up programme aims to provide a deeper insight into the provision and management of services as well as offer exploration of cultural influences on services. Completion of the BA (Hons) will enable you to confidently work within mental health sector in a managerial/supervisory capacity. In addition to the focus on leadership skills, the degree incorporates themes of communication and interpersonal skills, mental health, resilience, risk management and safeguarding along with the further development of key academic and digital skills.

Entry Requirements
Successful completion of the FdA in Mental Health and Resilience is required for entry onto the BA (Hons) in Mental Health and Resilience.

Extra costs and equipment
No special equipment is required as a full range of IT is available within the Learning Resource Centre for enrolled students. You may wish to purchase a computer (desktop or laptop) as all assessments are submitted electronically and the relevant software can be provided by the College free of charge.
What will I learn?
At Level 6, you will build on your research and study elements developed from level four and five as independent and competent researchers and commence your Dissertation module, which includes ethical primary and secondary research and allow you to research a topic relating to the subject discipline. A range of student-centred teaching and learning styles will be used and you will be encouraged to propose and generate innovative ideas from practice and enquiry-based scholarship. The Project Development module and the Cultural Competency in Mental Health module will allow you to reflect on the role of leadership, management, and sustaining services in the sector. The embedding of employability skills will prepare you for life after completion of the BA degree.
Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers
There is a requirement that you are engaged in a minimum of 4 hours a week term time practice in either paid or voluntary employment within the sector, throughout the duration of your programme. At level 6 work-based learning is embedded into the Project Development in Mental Health Services module, which allows you to utilise your knowledge of practice within the sector.
How will I learn?
You will benefit from a range of student-centred teaching and learning approaches which will be utilised within individual guided supervised sessions, Additionally, you will be encouraged to plan and generate innovative ideas from practice and enquiry-based learning. Lectures will embrace theoretical concepts relating to practice and will include guest speakers and industry representation from the sector. You will be encouraged to develop your independent and self-managed learning where possible and support each other through peer learning. The lectures will deliver the indicative content of the modules and sessions will provide interactive learning opportunities to apply diverse theoretical methods to manage practical situations.
Seminars will allow you to engage effectively in academic discussion and present arguments in relation to ethical and legal responsibilities. You will be encouraged to examine the relevance of academic integrity within the collating and reporting of primary research within the Dissertation module. Critical analysis will allow you to engage with opportunities to question research articles and critique sources of information. Teaching and learning will adopt an interleaving approach to support your long-term retention of new information and the ability to transfer knowledge to new situations.

Assessment in a variety of ways on the programme is intended to develop key skills that are beneficial to further study and employment within the mental health and resilience sector and include the following:
Dissertation - 20% poster presentation and 80% report
Policy Interventions and Practice - 70% critical review and 30% group presentation
Mental Health Risk and Resilience - 70% coursework plan and 30% presentation
Cultural Competency in Mental Health - 50% case study and 50% essay
Project Development in Mental Health Services - 85% report and 15% presentaiton
