Course SummaryEmployment opportunities in Blackpool for nursery practitioners, teaching assistants and primary school teachers is high. This pre - T Level is a programme designed as a stepping stone to B&FC’s T Level in Education and Childcare. You will be provided with an industry placement in a nursery or primary school and you’ll also learn about child development, the early years and national curriculum as well as the importance of play and early childhood attachment. You’ll be taught by our T Level expert tutors, who have all worked in early years and school settings. This programme gives you the best chance of gaining grade 4 in English and Maths as well as a head start should you progress to the T Level afterwards. Entry Requirements If you are 16-18 and want to work in the childcare and education sector, this course is designed to give you the key skills, including enhanced Maths and English, to allow you to progress to further study. 4 GCSEs grade 3 - 1 including English and Maths and a clear DBS check are required along with the following: • a successful interview with a tutor • the ability to study independently • a genuine interest in the subject • good communication skills • hardworking approach towards the industry Essential Skills - English and Maths If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject. You will benefit from extra tuition in English and Maths as well as guaranteed entry to the November re-sit for GCSE, meaning you get two more chances to sit your GCSE exams on this programme. Qualification ObtainedT Level transition programme - Education and Childcare Industry Placement and Field TripsYou will be provided with an industry placement, benefitting from experience in one or more local nursery or primary school settings. This industry placement will start when you feel ready and will be for one day per week. Learning and Teaching Methods You will attend college for three days per week. Included within the three days are: GCSE Maths classes GCSE English classes Skills development sessions in our simulation suites (nursery and primary school classrooms) Core sessions – these include subjects such as child development, play, types of curriculum and working with children who have additional needs English and Maths workshops – to enable you to be as prepared as possible for the GCSE re-sit exams. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of any courses within the College are approved to teach and/or assess the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering and/or assessing a given programme are appropriately qualified, with relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Assessment MethodsThis programme will give you a broad understanding of working with children in early years or school settings. You will learn about: • Child development • Play and attachment • Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum • Working with children with Special Educational Needs • Planning for and assessing children • Teaching techniques You’ll also benefit from a weekly skills development session in both of our specialist simulation suites at Bispham Campus – a nursery and a primary school classroom. Here, you will practise some of the technical skills needed to work with children and develop the confidence to work with a range of age groups in different environments. Other Costs and Equipment NeededYou will need black trousers and black flat shoes for your industry placement. We will provide you with the rest of your placement uniform. Career Options and Progression Students who complete this pre - T Level progress to B&FC’s T Level in Education and Childcare, subject to achieving Grade 4 in English and Maths. The T Level in Education and Childcare is a two-year programme equivalent to three A-Levels. It provides students with a license to practice in childcare and also takes students to university to study primary school teaching. Students who have progressed to and completed the T Level in Education and Childcare also progress to B&FC’s BA(hons) Education. Many students who study Education and Childcare also progress to rewarding careers, including: • Pastoral worker in schools • Special Educational Needs practitioner • Learning support worker in schools and colleges • Children’s mental health support worker
