Course SummaryPrepare for a career in the health sector or social work with this two-year BTEC Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels. Develop your academic and writing skills as you explore key topics such as mental health, human anatomy and psychology, and apply your knowledge to a real-life setting during a 100-hour practical work experience module. Successful students can gain the maximum 168 UCAS points needed to progress to a related degree. Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs grade 4 or above in English and Maths and a clear DBS check is required, along with the following: • A successful interview with a tutor • The ability to study independently • A genuine interest in the subject • Good communication skills • Hardworking approach towards the industry All 16-18 year-old applicants will be invited to attend an interview to meet a tutor and ask any questions they may have about the course. Some university degrees also require science at grade 4 or above. Essential Skills – English and Maths If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject. Qualification ObtainedBTEC National Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care Industry Placement and Field TripsYou will also complete at least 100 hours of work experience with a local health or care employer across your two-year programme where you will put the knowledge you’ve learned and the skills you’ve developed into practice in a real-life setting. You will attend a range of field trips on this programme. At College, teaching is delivered in groups and supported by group activities and discussions. One-to-one support is also provided. Your timetable will also include time spent with teaching staff to support you in completing your written assessments. When you start the course, we will assign you a progress tutor, who will support you throughout your time at college to ensure you reach your full potential. Their role will involve helping you to set academic and personal targets as well as develop career plans and employability skills. These can include: • Mental Health (coursework) • Sociology (coursework) • Health Psychology (coursework) Other Costs and Equipment NeededWe provide the majority of your placement uniform, the only items for this you will need to provide are black trousers and appropriate flat footwear. We will recommend a variety of text books that you could purchase to support you in your studies although copies of these are available within the college library or as E-books however you have the option to purchase your own copy if you wish. You will also need to provide your own writing materials, such as pens, paper and a folder to keep your college-work which case be purchased from any supplier therefore prices will vary. You will be allocated a small budget to pay for any College printing costs, however once you have exceeded the limit, you will be liable for any additional printing costs.
