Course SummaryPrepare for a career in the health sector or adult social care with this two-year BTEC Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels. Develop your academic and practical skills as you explore key topics relating to the health and social care sector, human lifespan development, human anatomy, infection prevention and psychology. You will also apply your knowledge to a real-life setting during a 100-hour practical work experience module. Successful students can gain the maximum 168 UCAS points needed to progress on to a related degree. Students who only complete year one of the course will still achieve a BTEC Foundation Diploma, equivalent to one A Level. Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs grade 4 or above in English and Maths and a clear DBS check is required, along with the following: • A successful interview with a tutor • The ability to study independently • A genuine interest in the subject • Good communication skills • Hardworking approach towards the industry You could still be accepted onto the course if you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths, but you will have to work towards re-sitting this subject as part of your main study programme. All 16-18 year-old applicants will be invited to attend an interview to meet a tutor and ask any questions they may have about the course. Some university degrees also require science at grade 4 or above. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject. You will attend a range of field trips on this programme. At College, teaching is delivered in groups and supported by group activities and discussions. One-to-one support is also provided. Your timetable will also include time spent with teaching staff to support you in completing your written assessments. When you start the course, we will assign you a progress tutor, who will support you throughout your time at college to ensure you reach your full potential. Their role will involve helping you to set academic and personal targets as well as develop career plans and employability skills. These can include: Understanding Mental Wellbeing (coursework) Sociological Perspectives (coursework) Health Psychology (coursework) Other Costs and Equipment NeededWe provide most of your placement uniform; The only items for this you will need to provide are black trousers and appropriate flat footwear. We will recommend a variety of text books that you could purchase to support you in your studies. Copies of these are available within the college library or as E-books although you have the option to purchase your own copy if you wish. You will also need to provide your own writing materials, such as pens, paper and a folder to keep your college-work which can be purchased from any supplier. You will be allocated a small budget to pay for any College printing costs, however, once you have exceeded the limit, you will be liable for any additional printing costs. The current price for printing are as follows: • 1 sided Black White sheet A4 is 4p • 2 sided Black White sheet A4 is 8p • 1 sided Colour is 10p • 2 sided Colour is 20p A DBS is required for your work placement, the cost of which will be covered by the college.
