Course Overview

Interested in a career in networking, system security or cloud computing?  Our computing courses equip you with the skills required to work in these technology expanding industries. There are many employability opportunities within the computing industry and at Blackpool & the Fylde College we have a wide range of courses that will provide you with the specialised industry based skills required to work in the sector of your choice. In your first year you will study a range modules including

  • Computer programming
  • Computer Systems
  • Computer networks
  • Website design and development
  • Human computer interaction
  • Game design an development

In the second year you will specialise in subject specific modules related to systems and hardware including

  • Video production
  • Interactive media development
  • Web development
  • Multimedia development
  • Graphics for interactive media
  • Wen based animation

Upon completion of this two year course you will have completed the equivalent of three 'A' levels specialised towards software engineering and game design. This qualification will provide you with the opportunity to then progress into higher education or employment.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs including Math and English or a relevant level 2 qualification

Extended Diploma in IT (QCF)

Essential Skills – English and Maths

If you achieve a grade 3 or below in your GCSE Maths and English exams you will have to do retakes in these subjects. This could delay your entry to university and/or employment.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching and learning differs for each module, with practical units incorporating a summative assignment that results in product creation. Students are initially supported by demonstrations and walkthroughs and later by a workshop/individual focus intended to foster creativity. Modules are delivered by specialised subject specialists with industry experience.

Facilities and resources are regularly updated to improve your experiences in college and to match the needs of the course.
