Course Overview

Interested in a career in software development, networking or web technologies?  Our computing courses equip you with the skills required to work in these technology expanding industries. There are many employability opportunities within the computing industry and at Blackpool and The Fylde College we have a wide range of courses that will provide you with the specialised industry based skills required to work in the sector of your choice.  In your year course you will study a range of topics including:

  • Creating 2D digital graphics
  • Setting up an IT system
  • 3D generated graphics
  • Website design and development
  • Improving productivity with IT
  • Internet Security

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 2 GCSEs or a relevant Level 1 qualification.

If you are a year 11 student applying for this programme, we will compare your GCSE results with the minimum target grades set for you by your school. This will help us decide whether this is your most suitable programme of study. Other students, including those from outside the area, will have an opportunity to discuss their qualifications and experience to make sure they too are studying at the right level. For some programmes, we might need to observe you carrying out certain practical tasks before we can make you an offer.

Essential Skills – English and Maths

If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching and learning differs for each module, with practical units incorporating a summative assignment that results in product creation. Students are initially supported by demonstrations and walkthroughs and later by a workshop/individual focus intended to foster creativity. Modules are delivered by specialised subject specialists with industry experience.

Facilities and resources are regularly updated to improve your experiences college and to match the needs of the course.
