Course SummaryThis numeracy project is being funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund to increase numeracy skills, confidence with numbers, and to improve employment opportunities. We are doing gentle introduction sessions, in a relaxed, community setting. These courses are suitable for beginners, people with low numeracy skills, lacking confidence, etc. Everyday life numeracy skills equip you with the basic skills needed to take control of your life with confidence, from handling money, to shopping and discounts, and saving and budgeting. This course is run at Seasiders Learning Centre for adults (19+) but can also be delivered in the community. Our courses run all year round, meaning you can start at any time during the year. This course is six hours with various days and class times to fit around work and busy schedules. On completion of the course, each participant will be awarded a £80 supermarket voucher. Entry RequirementsAlthough you do not need to have any formal qualifications to attend Multiply at Fleetwood, you do need to meet the following criteria: You must be aged 19+ and not already have a GCSE at grade C (or equivalent) in maths. You must live in a qualifying Blackpool postcode. You need to have lived in UK for 3 years+ or meet standard college visa requirements. Qualification ObtainedAny other Multiply (numeracy) provision not covered above,2 to 5 hours Industry Placement and Field TripsThere are no work placements or field trips associated with this course. Learning and Teaching MethodsThe course is delivered in small groups over six hours and is taught using a variety of teaching methods including an interactive screen supported by handouts. We use a range of different activities to optimize the understanding gained for our participants. These such activities are specifically designed to re-engage students and ‘make maths easy’. Expert Tutors One of our specially trained maths tutors is responsible for delivering Multiply: Making Maths Easy. Assessment MethodsThere are no examinations involved in Multiply. We ask students to complete a short initial assessment at the start of the course to help us understand your current level of ability and an assessment at the end to assess how far you've travelled. During the course, we cover the following topics: Introduction to number Ratio Geometry Fractions, Decimals and Percentages Averages Other Costs and Equipment NeededThis course is fully funded by the UK Government so there are no fees to pay. Participants will be given an exercise book to make notes in, no other equipment is required. Tuition Fees There no tuition fees associated with this course.
