How will I be assessed? Key information Where could this course take me? Course SummaryAll Multiply courses are designed to help adults (19+) improve their basic maths skills. As such they are gentle introductory sessions with no exams and no pressure, ideally suited to beginners who lack confidence when it comes to dealing with numbers This particular course is aimed at developing everyday numeracy helping you to grasp the basic maths skills that will enable you to manage your finances and help your children with their homework. The course, which runs all year round so you can start at any time during the year, is held at Fleetwood Learning Centre but can also be delivered in other community settings - please speak to one of our course tutors if you would like to arrange this for a group of eligible adults. We also run the course on different days and at different times to allow you to choose a session which fits around work and other commitments. Attend one of our morning sessions and you will also be able to access a free healthy breakfast. On completion of the course, each participant will be awarded a £50 supermarket voucher. Entry RequirementsAlthough you do not need to have any formal qualifications to attend Multiply at Fleetwood, you do need to meet the following criteria: You must be aged 19+ and not already have a GCSE at grade C (or equivalent) in maths. You must live in a qualifying postcode. All residents in FY7 qualify as do some in FY2, FY5 and FY6 who pay Council Tax to Lancashire County Council. You need to have lived in UK for 3 years+ or meet standard college visa requirements. Qualification ObtainedAny other Multiply (numeracy) provision not covered above,11 to 20 hours Industry Placement and Field TripsThere are no work placements or field trips associated with this course. Learning and Teaching MethodsAs there is no exam to work towards, the course content can be tailored according to individual needs. Topics covered will include: Introduction to number Ratio Geometry Fractions, Decimals and Percentages Averages As we know people learn in different ways we will adopt a range of teaching methods including the use of interactive SmartScreens and handouts to ensure you make the most of the programme which consists of six hours of classroom-based learning in small groups. Expert Tutors Our tutors have extensive experience teaching students who are nervous of numbers. We aim to take the fear out of maths and give students the key skills they need mathematically to help them in everyday life and when it comes to work. Assessment MethodsThere are no exams on this programme so assessment will be informal with tutors providing ongoing feedback through the course to help you improve your skills at every stage. Other Costs and Equipment NeededParticipants will be given an exercise book in which to make notes. No other equipment is required.
