Functional skills maths is designed to meet the needs of the world of work and is suitable for those people either actively looking for employment, as well as those in employment wishing to move on or up in their career.
This course will help you to understand the maths that you need to get by in the real world and develop the maths skills that you need to be able to use on a daily basis.
There are no previous qualifications required to undertake this course. However, in order to determine the most suitable level of study for your needs, you will undertake and initial and diagnostic assessment prior to entry on to the course.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course is delivered over 18 weeks where learners will take part in a number of sessions using a variety of different teaching methods.
All classes are three hours per week in college and will have the addition of homework/ online learning each week for normally around 1-2 hours.
Towards the end of the course you may also get a practice paper to complete at home to help you prepare for the final assessment.

All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
