Course SummaryThis qualification is primarily developed for those individuals who wish to enhance their career by qualifying as an MOT Tester. Achievement of this qualification enables them to apply to undertake the DVSA final observed assessment in order to achieve their Certificate of Competence (CoC), enabling them to become Nominated Tester. Entry Requirements This qualification is for individuals who want, or need to become MOT Testers. To be eligible to undertake this qualification in order to be an MOT Tester, a learner must: Have a current and full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes they want to test Be a skilled mechanic with at least 4 years full-time employment in the service and repair of the vehicle types to be tested (apprentices who have been employed for 4 years are eligible) Have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation Be ‘of good repute’ Please note: Where wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course, it is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment. Qualification ObtainedAward in MOT Testing (Classes 1 and 2) Industry Placement and Field TripsThere are no work placements or field trips on this course. Learning and Teaching Methods The content of this qualification has been designed to reflect the contents of the National Occupational Standards for MOT Testers. This MOT Testing (Classes 1&2) course based at our dedicated training facility covers the following modules: Supporting Legislation / Regulations Tools for the Job Reasons for Refusing to Start a Test Use of Manual Standards and Procedures Documentation Use of a VTS Device Inspection Routine Brake Testing and Calculations This qualification is 29 guided learning hours (GLH) of which a minimum of eight hours must be practical. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of business to business courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver.
