The Digital and Mechatronic System Fundamentals programme is a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) at Level 4, delivered over one semester at Blackpool and The Fylde College. Designed for adult learners and apprentices, this modular course provides an accelerated introduction to key concepts in digital electronics and mechatronic system integration.

Learners will explore digital logic systems including combinational and sequential circuits, Boolean algebra, truth tables, and programmable logic.   • A Level 3 qualification in Engineering or a related STEM subject (e.g. BTEC, T Level, or equivalent).
  • Relevant industrial experience in engineering, manufacturing, or related technical fields (typically two years or more), subject to interview and skills review.
  • Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE Grade 4/C in Maths and English is preferred, though support may be offered for those working toward this.

On the Digital and Mechatronic System Fundamentals programme, learners will develop a solid foundation in digital electronics and mechatronic systems. Essential skills: English and Maths

How will I be assessed?

This programme includes two main modules: Digital Principles and Mechatronics. In Digital Principles, you will learn how digital systems work, including logic circuits, binary operations and programmable devices. In Mechatronics, you will explore how mechanical and electronic systems are combined, using sensors, actuators and control systems.

Assessment is coursework-based and designed to reflect real engineering tasks. You may be asked to design circuits, complete practical projects, use simulation software or write technical reports. There are no exams. Instead, you will be assessed on how well you can apply your knowledge to solve problems and complete industry-related tasks.
