Course Overview

Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Technicians are highly skilled in carrying out routine motor vehicle servicing, complex fault diagnosis and component replacement to keep modern motor vehicles safe to use on the road and operating to optimum performance and efficiency.

This Vehicle Inspection course is an ideal place to start your career journey into this exciting, lucrative and rewarding industry at this time of the academic year. You will focus more on the routine maintenance of motor vehicles and be looking to enter the industry as a service technician or have aspirations of becoming an MOT tester.

Entry Requirements

Grade 3 - 1 in English and Maths

All 16-18 year old applicants will be invited to attend an interview to meet a tutor and ask any questions they may have about the course.

Diploma in Vehicle Inspection (VRQ)

Essential Skills – English and Maths

If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will be taught by tutors who have a wealth of industry experience and a passion for developing the next generation of technicians. Your tutors will get to know how you learn best and tailor their teaching methods to your needs.

There are weekly opportunities for you to discuss your progress with your Progress Tutor and you will be allocated a team manager to support you through every aspect of your learning and career development.

This course is mainly practical-based and is delivered in the following way (hours shown are weekly)…

  • Workshop/Practical – 6 hours per/week
  • Classroom/Online – 6 hours/week
  • Industry Placement (Company – 26 hours minimum)

Because this is an engineering-based course it is important that you continue to develop your English and maths skills. Depending on your GSCE results, you will spend up to 3 hours per/week studying areas of these subjects where you need to develop your skills the most.

The environment is very supportive and includes regular target setting and reviews.
