Course Overview

If you are aged between 16 and 18, have an interest in what the automotive industry can offer in terms of a career and want to take your learning to a higher level, this two year Level 3 Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Triple Diploma is ideal.

This Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course is designed to provide you with an insight into life as a Motor Vehicle Technician and to give you the entry requirements needed to progress to our Automotive and Motorsport Degrees.

The Level 3 course is an even mix of practical and theory, with all practical training taking place in our £10 million Advanced Technology Centre, boasting the kind of tools, equipment and facilities found in the best-equipped modern-day commercial workshops. We even have our very own 4-Wheel Drive Dyno., Motorcycle Dyno., Engine Test Cell and Wind Tunnel.

Entry Requirements


  • You must be aged 16 to 18 when the course starts in September
  • You must have a minimum of Grade 4 in GCSE English and Mathematics.


  • A passion for cars and a keen interest in working in the automotive industry.
  • Strong GCSE in a Science subject.

All 16-18 year old applicants will be invited to attend an interview to meet a tutor and ask any questions they may have about the course.

Qualification Obtained

Extended Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (VRQ)

Essential Skills – English and Maths

If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will be taught by tutors who have a wealth of industry experience. All your tutors have a passion for developing the next generation of vehicle technicians and automotive engineers. Your tutors will get to know how you learn best and tailor their teaching methods to your needs.

There are weekly opportunities for you to discuss your progress with your Progress Tutor and you will be allocated a team manager to support you through every aspect of your learning and career development.

This course is mainly practical-based and is delivered in the following way (hours shown are weekly)…

  • Motorsport Practical (Workshop – 6 hours)
  • Motorsport Theory (Classroom – 6 hours)
  • Independent Study (1.5 hours)
  • Industry Placement (Company – 26 hours total)
  • Progress Meeting (Classroom – 1.5 hours)
