This course is open to all learners. You don’t need any previous qualifications to start, but a basic understanding of computers will help. The course begins with CCNA 1: Introduction to Networks, so you’ll build your knowledge step by step.

Extra costs and equipment

You will need a computer, laptop, or tablet that can run Cisco Packet Tracer and access the internet. All learning materials are included through the Cisco NetAcad platform, with no extra fees for software or content.

What You’ll Learn

The full CCNA programme includes three stages:

CCNA 1: Introduction to Networks

  • Learn networking fundamentals, including protocols, IP addressing, and models.
  • Understand how switches, routers, and wireless access work.
  • Study network security basics and an introduction to network automation.

CCNA 2: Routing, Switching, and Wireless Essentials

  • Explore VLANs, trunking, and inter-VLAN routing.
  • Learn static and dynamic routing with OSPF.
  • Study wireless standards, ACLs, and network troubleshooting.

CCNA 3: Enterprise Networking, Security, and Automation

  • Dive into enterprise networking and advanced routing protocols like EIGRP and BGP.
  • Configure WAN technologies such as MPLS, VPNs, and QoS.
  • Learn network security, SNMP, Syslog, and network automation using Python and REST APIs.

How You’ll Learn

The course is flexible and easy to follow. Each module starts with a three-hour introduction session at the University Campus or online using Microsoft Teams.

You’ll have full access to the Cisco NetAcad Virtual Learning Environment, where you can study at your own pace.

After around 4–6 weeks per module, you’ll take your online and practical exams. The practical tests use Cisco equipment or Packet Tracer simulation software.

How You’ll Be Assessed

You’ll complete a mix of practical work and online exams across all three modules.

Summative Assessment

  • Practical exam – worth 50% of your total mark.
  • Online multiple-choice exam – around 50 questions, worth 50%.
