Key information Course SummaryDevelop the skills and knowledge needed to become a craftsperson in plastering with the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Plastering. The course is taught by industry specialists in superbly equipped workshops, where you will develop proficiency in this highly skilled trade. You will have an opportunity to learn about different materials, applying external rendering, floor screed systems and techniques such as direct bond, taping and jointing. Successful students either continue their training at a higher level or progress directly into employment or onto one of a growing number of apprenticeships in this area. , Entry RequirementsYou should have some basic plastering skills or have completed the Level 1 Plastering course. Additionally, you will need basic English and maths and a knowledge of some simple computing to be able to complete the course successfully. If you are struggling in any of these areas, we can help you acquire these skills and support you to gain qualifications which will help to increase your employability going forward. Please note: Where wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course, it is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment. Qualification ObtainedAward in Skills for Employment in the Construction Industries Industry Placement and Field TripsThere are no industry placements or field trips attached to the course. Learning and Teaching MethodsThis course is very practical in nature and, whilst some time will be spent explaining materials and techniques, students can anticipate spending most of their time in the workshop watching plastering demonstrations before attempting the various applications themselves. Industry expert tutors will be on hand to offer advice and provide valuable feedback to help students improve their skills. Assessment MethodsDuring the course, your practical skills will be assessed continuously to ensure competency and to prepare you for your final synoptic assessment. You will also sit an externally set exam that will consist of short answer, multiple choice and detailed answer questions. All your combined grades will then be calculated to provide you with a final overall fail, pass, merit, distinction or distinction star grade. This will be shown on your certificate. The assessment weighting is as follows: • External exam - 40% • Graded synoptic assessment - 60% Please note: you will only be given one opportunity to re-sit the external exam and the final synoptic assessment.
