AM2E

Gain Industry Recognition for Your Time-Served Electrical Skills

The AM2E Assessment is specifically for electricians who already have extensive experience working in the industry and who are completing their Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA). The EWA is designed for people in the trade who don't have any formally recognised qualifications in electrical installation but who are already industry-competent.

You can only book your AM2E Assessment once you have successfully completed your EWA.

If you haven't already completed an AM2 assessment (at some point in the past), you will need to do the full AM2E Assessment. If you have completed an AM2 assessment, you will only have to do certain supplementary units of the AM2E depending on when you did your AM2. For those who got their AM2 Assessment before 2010, please see our AM2E Pre-April 20210 Testing & Safe Isolation Unit. For those who got their AM2 after April 2010, please see our AM2E Post-April 2010 - Containment & Safe Isolation Unit.

If you have non-UK qualifications, you can only take the AM2E as the final step in the EWA process – it cannot be taken on a stand-alone basis. Please read the guidance on the ECS website.

If you are considering taking the Experienced Worker Assessment please read this important notice.

Once you have gained the AM2E and achieved Qualified Electrician status you can progress onto the Advanced Assessment of Competence which gives you Approved Electrician status. Alternatively, you could take the 2391 - Inspecting and Testing qualification we offer here at B&FC. Both of these options would increase your chances of securing a promotion and/or a higher salary.

How You'll Learn

The AM2E Assessment is an assessment rather than a training course so you will not be expected to learn any additional information or skills during this time.

Expert tutors

All tutors involved in the delivery of courses and/or assessments within the College are approved to teach and/or assess the subjects and modules they deliver.

The approval process ensures that staff delivering and/or assessing a given programme are appropriately qualified, with relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.

How You'll Be Assessed

The AM2e Assessment is conducted over a total of 17.75 hours, spread across two and a half days.

You'll perform tasks in specially equipped booths that simulate typical electrical installation wiring systems and be observed by specially trained assessors who will ensure you are carrying out all the practical elements of the Assessment to the required standard both from a technical point of view and in line with health and safety procedures.
