Education and Teaching Assessor - Level 3

Summary

This suite of qualifications is designed to provide the essential knowledge and understanding that quality assurance staff need, and offer additional units that evidence competent practice. This approach gives flexibility and a greater potential to meet the needs of aspiring quality assurance staff.

All students must complete Unit 01 which stands alone as the Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice. Once this is completed, we will support you to progress onto the next nested qualification/s dependent on your role.

Career progression

Depending on your role, you may be able to progress onto the Level 3 Award in Education and Training or Level 5 Diploma in Teaching.

Entry Requirements

his course is available to students aged 19 years and over.

The Teacher Education team will review your prior qualifications and/or experience to ensure you have the potential to achieve the qualification.

You must have completed your assessing qualification before progressing onto the internal quality assurance qualifications.

For unit 02 and unit 03, you will need to be involved in IQA process and lead IQA processes respectively.

For these additional units, documents will need to be gathered to demonstrate competence, this includes evidence such as:

  • CV, certificates of qualifications, CPD record
  • Team meeting minutes
  • Standardisation meeting minutes
  • Lead IQA witness testimony
  • IQA sampling plans for assessors
  • IQA sampling and feedback to assessors

You will need a qualified (occupationally competent and IQA qualified) person to act as a counter signatory for your TAQA qualification.

What will I learn?

What will I learn?

You will study the following units:

  • Unit 01 – Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment
  • Unit 02 – Internally assure the quality of assessment
  • Unit 03 – Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility

Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers

This course has no industry placement and no field trips, however, please ensure you meet the entry requirements listed in relation to quality assurance opportunities.

How will I learn?

This qualification will be delivered over 3 x 3 hours sessions, spaced over a term, at Bispham Campus. There are a number of start dates throughout the year; please enquire to identify the next available cohort.

The theory for the 02 unit will be taught at the end of the Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice course (unit 01). The rest of the qualification will be completed through 1-1 support between you and the Teacher Education teaching/assessing team.

The theory for the 03 unit will be taught during a separate 1x3 hour session. The rest of the qualification will be completed through 1-1 support between you and the Teacher Education teaching/assessing team.

Expert tutors

All staff involved in the delivery of teacher education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver.

The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.

How will I be assessed?

How will I be assessed?

Following each session, you will have assignment/s and/or tasks to complete and hand in according to the assignment schedule. These written assignments will each take approximately 2-4 hours to complete, depending on the level of independent research undertaken.

You will also be observed by the Teacher Education assessing/teaching team at least once, as well as completing a professional discussion.
