Course SummaryThe BA (Hons) top-up is aimed at students who have already completed our Foundation Degree and reflects the aspirations of many practitioners to gain higher level practical, managerial and technical skills, whilst at the same time enabling them to gain a higher educational qualification. As a student you will not only develop your skills in areas specifically related to the teaching and learning of children or young adults but will also acquire knowledge in key higher level areas such as supervisory, managerial and training roles within the education sector, which creates a real variety of career opportunities. This is further enhanced by excellent work placement opportunities sourced by our experienced placement team and underpinned by our strong relationships with major employers. We believe this sets our graduates apart from others in the sector and results in near 100% graduate employability on completion of the programme. Entry Requirements Only applicants that have successfully completed the Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning Support, validated by Lancaster University, with Blackpool and The Fylde College are eligible to apply to this course. During the course of this one-year top-up programme, you will explore how social, cultural and economic factors impact on education in a broader context as well as examining the psychological aspects of learning and how they impact on a child's development. In addition, you will sharpen your critical thinking and analytical abilities, allowing you to challenge current theory and practice in order to gain a deeper understanding of teaching and learning in a contextual sense and also to give you the tools necessary to critical reflect on and improve your own skill set. The dissertation module will give you the opportunity to explore in more depth an area of the curriculum of particular interest to you as well as allowing you to develop keen research skills and refine your ability to construct a lucid, acutely observed piece of writing to robust academic standards. You will be strongly encouraged during the programme to engage with the voluntary sector to enrich your classroom experience with hands-on learning. This will also add gravitas to your CV and help you stand out from other candidates when it comes to applying for the best graduate roles within the sector.
