Key information Where could this course take me? Course Summary Course Summary This programme of learning provides you with four qualifications in one year! Based on feedback from a key group of employer partners, we have designed this programme to prepare you for working in the health or social care sector in careers such as support work or care assistance. The knowledge gained will support you in accessing careers in services such as hospices, primary care and community care. On this programme you will be qualified with: Level 2 Certificate in Common Health Conditions Level 2 Award in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia Level 2 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care By the end of this programme you will have developed a firm understanding of different aspects of health and care, including: various common health conditions monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions knowledge and skills required when providing positive care for people with dementia and their families different perspectives of death and dying the meaning of learning disability and how to support an individual with a disability Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs grade 3 - 1 including English and Maths and a clear DBS check a successful interview with a tutor the ability to study independently a genuine interest in the subject good communication skills hardworking approach towards the industry Qualification Obtained Level 2 Certificate in Technical Health and Social Care Learning and Teaching Methods Across the year, you could study units in: Monitoring the health of individuals Person-centred approaches to care and support Equality and diversity Dementia Awareness Understand how to work in End of Life care Awareness of autistic spectrum disorders Understanding mental health problems Diabetes and respiratory disease awareness Industry Placement and Field Trips This course includes opportunity to gain experience working at a health or social care setting, designed to enhance learning and increase your employability. We will also invite you to attend mandatory relevant field trips and career events, which you could draw from to enhance your CV and personal statement. Part of this programme includes an industry placement in a health or care related setting with a local employer. It is highly likely that employers will request any students who attend their setting for an industry placement are vaccinated for COVID:19. Learning and Teaching Methods This is a full-time course, involving 3 days a week spent at College. You will also be provided with work experience in a relevant setting, which you can either complete during college time or independently on your study day. We will also expect you to spend 3 hours a week on independent learning. At College, teaching is delivered in groups and supported by group activities and discussions. One-to-one support is also provided to help with completing written assignments. When you start the course we will assign you a progress tutor who will support you throughout your time here. Their role is to help you in setting academic and personal targets, identifying career plans, developing employability skills and monitoring your progress to make sure you realise your full potential. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Career Options and Progression Subject to entry requirements, you could also progress to a BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, specialising in nursing or social work. Students who study this qualification could progress straight into employment within the health and care industries.
