Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health - Level 2

Summary

This qualification (NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health) will provide an introduction to the knowledge and awareness of children and young people’s mental health.

This course allows you to develop specialist knowledge and understanding of children and young people’s mental health in context, mental health problems commonly associated with children and young people, the impact of mental ill-health on children and young people and support available to maintain mental wellbeing in children and young people.  The course is delivered remotely and runs over 10 weeks with 4.5 hours of scheduled contact time each week.

You will be assigned a subject specialist course tutor who will deliver the live scheduled sessions. The tutor will also be available for weekly support and to guide you from the beginning to the completion of your qualification. Throughout the academic year both evening and daytime study options are available.

The qualification is internally assessed using a range of methods including written assignments or tasks This qualification will not only support employment opportunities, but also the possibility of progressing on to the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health. You may also wish to consider completing this course as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to support your current role.

As this course is delivered online, regular access to IT is essential in order to attend the sessions and to complete the assessment tasks/electronic workbooks.

What will I learn?

Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers

This is a knowledge-only qualification; there are no industry placements and no field trips on this course.

How will I learn?

This course will be delivered remotely with live lectures and support sessions schedule for a total of 4.5 hours a week for 10 consecutive weeks from the course start date.

Within these sessions there will be tutor delivery, question and answer, discussion, group work tasks and individual tasks. 

It is expected that you will complete a minimum of 3.5 hours independent study, each week, outside of the class to complete the assessment tasks which take the form of electronic workbooks.

  • Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health Concerns 
  • Understanding the Impact of Children and Young People’s Mental Health Concerns 
  • Understanding How to Support Children and Young People with Mental Health Concerns 

All units will be internally assessed using a range of tasks including electronic workbooks, and tasks such as designing a leaflet or poster. Resources will be available online to support you with this.
