Course SummaryThis qualification develops the knowledge and awareness of the causes of infection and how these can be managed and controlled. It has been specifically designed for the health and social care sector recognising that protecting people from infection is a really important part of providing high-quality care, especially as some life-threatening infections can spread easily within care environments. The course covers procedures and regulations surrounding infection control, as well as the importance of maintaining a clean environment, supporting you to develop the skills and understanding you need to tackle the risk of infection in your workplace. It is also suitable for those working in a school or college who would like to develop a knowledge of infection control and prevention This 6 week course is one of a suite of short 6 week CPD courses available over the academic year. Others available include: Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Safe Handling of Medication Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Dignity and Safeguarding Level 2 Award in Helping Skills Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia Level 2 Award in Nutrition and Health Entry Requirements No previous training or experience is required for this programme but you must be over 19 on the 31 August before the course start date Qualification ObtainedAward in the Prevention and Control of Infection Industry Placement and Field TripsThis is a knowledge-only qualification; there are no work placements required and no field trips planned as part of this qualification. Learning and Teaching Methods This course consists of the following 3 units: The principles of infection prevention and control Causes and spread of infection Cleaning, decontamination and waste management The course is delivered over 6 weeks from the course start date through once weekly 4 hour classroom based sessions with a specialist course tutor. The tutor will also be available for weekly support and will guide you from the beginning to the completion of your qualification. Within these sessions there will be tutor delivery, question and answer, discussion, group work tasks and individual tasks. It is expected that you will complete a minimum of 4 hours independent study, each week, outside of the class to complete the assessment tasks which take the form of electronic workbooks. You will also have access to a Virtual Learning Platform which will provide you with additional resources to support completion of the qualification. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Other Costs and Equipment NeededFor completion of the assessment tasks, it is recommended that you either have access to devices at home such as a laptop or that you are able to attend college at additional times to access the IT facilities available.
