This MOT tester course gives you the training and MOT qualification you need to be a certified MOT tester for Class 4 and 7 vehicles.

Our Level 2 MOT tester training is designed for people working in motor vehicle maintenance or the automotive industry who want to move into vehicle testing. It builds your motor skills and mechanical knowledge so you can carry out MOT tests correctly and professionally.

Using a mix of practical training and classroom learning, this automotive training course makes learning clear and easy to follow. Assessments are based on real MOT testing tasks, giving you a strong foundation for work in a MOT test centre or MOT station.

By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to take the next step towards gaining your MOT tester licence.

After completing this course, you may wish to progress to the Level 3 MOT Test Centre Manager course.

This next step supports progression into a MOT manager role. You will learn how to:

  • Develop, supervise and support MOT testing staff

This progression route is ideal for vehicle technicians who want more responsibility or plan to run or manage a MOT station in the future.

Key Course Information

Entry Requirements

MOT testers must have:

  • A current and full UK driving licence in the class of vehicles they wish to test
  • A current Level 3 qualification in motor vehicle maintenance for the category they wish to test in
  • Four years’ experience working on class of vehicles you wish to test
  • No ‘unspent’ convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation

Please note: Wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course. It is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment. What You'll Learn

This intensive MOT tester course will develop your skills around the MOT testing routine to help you become a nominated tester for classes 4 and 7.

You will learn about:

How You'll Learn

The Level 2 award in MOT testing Class 4 and 7, replaces the Nominated Tester Training (NTT) which was formerly run by DVSA.

This qualification is for individuals who are serious about becoming fully qualified MOT testers. Using a blend of practical and theory-based study, we make learning easy by putting in place meaningful assessments which reflect the demands of today’s competitive industry, giving you a solid grounding in key principles and ideas.

Once you have completed this programme, you will need to complete a VT8 Observation, which is the final step in your journey to becoming an MOT tester and gaining your MOT qualification.

Practical workshop and classroom sessions are held to prepare students for the assessments which will enable them to gain the required accreditation.
