Our Level 2 MOT tester training is designed for people working in motor vehicle maintenance or the automotive industry who want to move into vehicle testing. It builds your motor skills and mechanical knowledge so you can carry out MOT tests correctly and professionally on Class 4 and 7 vehicles.
Using a mix of practical training and classroom-based sessions, this automotive training course makes learning clear and easy to follow. Assessments are based on real MOT testing tasks, giving you a strong foundation for work in a MOT test centre or MOT station.
By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to take the next step towards gaining your MOT tester licence which involves completing an MOT demonstration test which you can organise through the gov.uk website

New Whitehills automotive industry training facility
This course is delivered at our dedicated industry training facility located at Whitehills Business Park. The Park is conveniently situated at the end of the M55 with a Travel Lodge nearby offering affordable accommodation for delegates who require it.

Entry Requirements
To become an MOT tester, you must have:
- A current and full UK driving licence in the class of vehicles they wish to test
- A current Level 3 qualification in motor vehicle maintenance for the category you wish to test in
- Four years’ experience working on the class of vehicles you wish to test
- No ‘unspent’ convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation

How You'll Be Assessed
This course is assessed via a multiple-choice question test and a practical assessment. If you complete this successfully you will be awarded a Level 2 MOT testing certificate. The certificate then enables you to book a driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) MOT Demonstration Test which is a practical MOT on a vehicle under the scrutiny of a DVSA assessor. This is the final step in your journey to becoming an MOT tester and gaining your MOT qualification.
