Strengthen Your Expertise in Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations
The City & Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award in Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations targets practising electricians. It merges the C&G 2391-50 and 2391-51 courses, encompassing both initial verification and periodic assessments.
This qualification is intended for electricians that hold relevant Level 3 Electrotechnical qualifications, who want to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD), learn new skills, and enhance their understanding of initial and periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations.

You can use this course to progress further in your electrical career as an installer, or you can use it to progress further onto other disciplines such as City and Guilds Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396).

Entry Requirements
- Participants must be 18 or over
- This qualification is intended for practising electricians, holding a relevant level 3 qualification (such as C&G 2365/2357/2330/8282/5357/5393, equivalent historic qualifications or other awarding organisation equivalent)
- Up to date 18th Edition certificate and a good understanding of IET Wiring Regulations BS7671
Although there are no formal qualifications required for this electrical verification course, it is expected that you should have a good knowledge and understanding of electrical science and principles. Previous experience of electrical installation work, either within the electrical contracting industry or an allied trade is essential.
It is best suited to those who are working within the electrical industry and are actively involved with the inspection and testing process with previous experience of live boards. It is also useful for you to have an understanding of 3 phase systems.

Extra costs and equipment
All materials and equipment are provided by the centre, but candidates are asked to wear their own safety footwear in workshop environments.

How You’ll Learn
During the City and Guilds Inspection and Testing course, you will be working in a classroom environment, within our purpose-built electrical installation training room. The training consists of 30 hours actual face-to-face training with additional 5 hours for assessments.
Our tutors will guide you through all aspects of inspection and testing ranging from basic health and safety to actually performing testing using different types of test equipment. As our groups are kept as small as possible, so you can expect plenty of hands-on tuition from our training team.

Our recruitment process ensures that tutors delivering a given programme are suitably qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and a familiarity with professional practice. The aim of this is to enrich students’ learning experience, giving them an insight into what working in the industry is really like.
How You’ll Be Assessed
Assessments will take place on day 5 and day 6, they will consist of:
- 1 x Practical Assessment (2 hours)
- 1 x Multiple Choice Exam (60 questions, 2 hours) pass mark is approx. 75% this exam is open book
- 1 x Short answer test (1 hour)
