B&FC construction students enjoyed an exciting sneak peek into the making of the £24m Blackpool Conference and Exhibition Centre.

Level 3 and HNC students were guests of construction firm McLaughlin & Harvey.

Project manager Frank Paterson led tours of the upcoming Centre where students got the inside track on many cutting-edge construction techniques and technologies.

The construction company has provided several B&FC students with 315-hour placements as it develops the Centre, which features an exhibition space on first floor and a second floor conference space with a capacity of 2,000.

It's located on the site of the former car park on Leopold Grove and the first major new Winter Gardens development for more than 80 years - since the Opera House was built in 1939.

McLaughlin & Harvey is renowned for a wide range of high-profile projects across the UK, from a research centre at Oxford University to Royal Wharf Pier in London.

B&FC is among the country's first colleges to be offering a T Level in construction. The Design, Surveying and Planning T Level will see students spend 20% of their time in the workplace, applying their learnings on important projects with employers like McLaughlin & Harvey.
