Welcome to the Build Up Centre
Based at the Kincraig Construction Centre, just a short drive from our Bispham main campus, we work with Jobcentre Plus, Blackpool Council and local construction firms to help get you back into employment.
Build Up provides hands-on training and employability skills to get you ready for hiring into a construction role.
How are we doing? More than 7,000 students have secured relevant full-time roles within the construction sector through Build Up!
National recognition
Build Up's success is recognised by a string of accolades. It's also been used by Ofsted as a best practice exemplar across the education sector.
Industry-standard facilities
At the Kincraig Construction Centre, we try to replicate as closely as possible the environment you'll experience on an actual building site. That means using industry standard tools and materials so that you familiarise yourself with these and the techniques involved in using them.
The aim is that by the time you finish the programme you'll have the confidence to apply for jobs immediately and start work straightaway.
What's involved in the Build Up programme?
You'll undertake 4 weeks of training, spending 4 days a week as a general construction operative.
Successfully complete the programme and you'll get a CSCS card, award in Health and Safety, and the following units:
Practical Units
- Groundwork
- Trowel Operations
- Plastering
- Dry Lining
- Tiling
Employability Units
- Handling and storage of materials
- Introduction to working in construction
- Personal work skills
On completion of the course, students are given advice and guidance on progression within the construction sector.

Ben shows just what it's possible to achieve after only one day on the Build Up programme. He really got to grips with tiling a wall on day one and was immediately onto laying floor tiles the following day.
Ben is hoping to take his new found skills directly into the construction industry and turn his talents into cash with a much needed boost to his income.
