ANTHONY RISHTON from B&FC for Business shares his five steps to get you from here to an apprenticeship - and on the way to your ideal career...

Getting started on your journey to being signed up for an apprenticeship is both exciting and daunting. But we're here to make it easier. Here are the five steps to getting set for your dream job.

1. What do you enjoy doing?

This is really important. You will spend around a third of your waking life at work, so you have to make sure you enjoy it.

  • What are your hobbies? Could they be related to your work?
  • Do you love working with your hands?
  • Are you into digital technology?
  • Do you love caring for people or animals?

All of these things (and many more) could be translated into an apprenticeship.

2. Register your interest

Talk to our team and register your interest with B&FC.

We have a team dedicated to helping you find your perfect apprenticeship and they will help guide you through the whole process with hints and tips to make sure your CV is right and you perform well in an interview.

3. Apply for jobs

Keep applying! Applying for jobs is hard work. You might have applied for one or several and you might not have heard anything.

Don’t worry - this is perfectly normal and the chances are you’ll need to be persistent and resilient until you get your dream role.

Let our team help match you to the perfect apprenticeship, we regularly have employers contacting us looking for apprentices so let us help match you and them.

4. Get an interview

The thought of a job interview can be scary, the first and most important thing to remember though is that your potential employer REALLY wants you to be right for the job.

The interview isn’t designed to catch you out. It’s designed for you to showcase your skills and knowledge, and with the right preparation, a small amount of research and support from B&FC, you’ll be able to approach any interview in a calm, relaxed way and massively improve your chances of landing the job.

5. Day one

Well done! You’ve got the job, which means your apprenticeship can start. If you haven’t already done so contact B&FC to let us know where you are and what you’re doing.

A member of our team will get in touch with you and your employer and you’ll be signed onto your course.
