Production Chef - Intermediate Apprenticeship

Job Summary

Production Chef Apprenticeship at Salt of The Earth. Good Food Award - brunch and lunch spot with seasonal and creative menu and weekly specials. As an apprentice, you will work with our core team in a fast-paced kitchen, helping to prepare and cook our menu to a high standard.

Full Details

You will report to our Head Chef and play an important role in ensuring our kitchen runs smoothly and safely. We love collaboration on ideas for specials, our seasonal menu and our homemade cakes.

Do you have a passion for food? You will need to have an active interest in cooking and starting a professional career in hospitality.

In you role you will:

  • Food Preparation: Prepare, cook & plate dishes to specific standard
  • Kitchen Hygiene: Maintain excellent standards of personal and kitchen cleanliness, following food safety and health and safety regulations
  • Stock & Waste: Assist with stock rotation and control, helping to reduce food waste
  • Dietary Needs: Adapt dishes to meet specific dietary, religious, and allergenic requirements
  • Documentation: Accurately record food temperatures and maintain required kitchen paperwork

Salt of The Earth are a small independent brunch and lunch spot in Carleton, that prides itself on offering creative and tasty seasonal menus to our loyal customers. We were awarded a Good Food Award in 2024 & 2025 and hope to repeat this year in September. We have high staff retention, and we are looking for somebody that is passionate about food and works well with our small team.

Qualifications Required

Level 2 a minimum of English and maths grades A*-D (9-3) (or equivalent) are desirable OR willingness to complete Functional Skills Level 1/2 which are a requirement to have or to achieve before EPA Gateway.

  • Team Player: The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and support the wider team
  • Detail Oriented: A methodical approach to work, focusing on accuracy and consistency

Standard & Level

The successful candidate will work towards completing the Level 2 Production Chef Standard from the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education. Delivered by Blackpool and The Fylde College offering expert tuition and exceptional facilities.

Hours: 30 hours a week – Important to note

  • Wednesday prep morning 3 - 5 hours
  • Thursday – Sunday around opening hours of 10am – 4pm
     

Future prospects

Opportunity to progress to a Level 3 Senior Production Chef or move into a permanent Chef de Partie role upon completion.
