Apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship support

Everyone on an apprenticeship or pre-apprenticeship with the College will be assessed to see if they need additional support to help them complete their programme of study successfully and ensure they can make a meaningful contribution to the employer business.

If you are on a NVQ Level 2 work-based learning programme and have an initial assessment score of below level 2 for English or mathematics you may be entitled to additional tuition or support.

If you are studying a NVQ Level 3 or above work-based learning programme, support may be available, however in some cases this may be dependent on further assessment.

You may also be entitled to support if:

You have a learning difficulty and/or a disability such as:

  • A specific learning difficulty (SpLD)
  • Autism
  • Sensory loss
  • Mobility difficulties
  • Mental health conditions
  • Epilepsy
  • Other medical conditions

You have additional social needs, such as:

  • Poor confidence and/or low self-esteem
  • A history of being bullied
  • Poor attendance at high school
  • Stress
  • You are a Looked After Child, Care Leaver or Young Carer

How we support work-based students

We offer a wide range of additional tuition and support measures to enable each work-based student to successfully complete their course. We do this by liaising closely with you, the student, your training adviser, employer, and the Student Support and Wellbeing Team to identify any potential barriers to learning and, where appropriate, create a bespoke package to support individual needs.

You can discuss this when you are signed up to your programme, or refer yourself via your tutor/assessor at any time throughout your framework. Support is bespoke to your individual needs and we aim to be very flexible with when and where this takes place.
