My Story

Before enrolling onto the Foundation Degree NESSA, I’d spent almost 15 years as an office administrator. I always knew that I wanted more out of my career and I felt ready for a new challenge, one that would enable me to enhance my future career prospects.

I’d always had an interest in ICT but I had no idea what qualifications I could take in order to successfully enter the industry.

I initially enrolled onto the Foundation Degree NESSA knowing nothing about networking, however, after a few weeks, I was hooked. I immersed myself into my studies and as the first year ended, I found I’d enjoyed the challenges the modules gave me and was excited for what was to come. At the end of the second year, I achieved a Distinction.

How B&FC Helped Me

  • B&FC provided resources and information to support my academic growth
  • B&FC has small class sizes so I can get one to one help from the tutor
  • B&FC's tutors are supportive and understanding
  • B&FC provides dedicated net labs, with industry standard equipment
  • The timetable  is only one day and one evening a week

Why B&FC?

During my second year I had the opportunity to gain a work experience placement. I found a placement within the IT Department at Blackpool Council. From my first day, I knew this was the industry I was meant to work in. It was so exciting to get a glimpse of the real networking world and it allowed me to confirm that the skills gained at college were indeed industry-relevant.

When my work placement came to an end, I was offered a job within the IT Department at Blackpool Council and I could not be happier.
