My Story

I have been a student at Blackpool and the Fylde College since September 2013. I knew it was the right place for me when I came to the college open day and saw how many different topics were covered on the Level 3 IT course. One of the few subjects I was interested in after leaving secondary school was IT so to be able to learn about various IT topics such as graphics and web design was an exciting factor that contributed to my enrolment. I was made aware of the course by a close friend, which encouraged me to find out more about B&FC and to see if was right for me.

The facilities at B&FC allow projects to be worked on to a professional standard, with an example being the green screens and lighting available for video making. The teachers and tutors at B&FC ensure lessons are engaging and fun, but are also on hand to provide informative and helpful guidance.

The assistance with assignments, particularly for university assignments is excellent, with credit to the Higher Education Learning Mentor team (HELM) and resources available within the college library or online. The courses at B&FC have allowed me to learn new skills that will be valuable in the workplace.

How B&FC Helped Me

  • B&FC has great facilities especially green screens and lighting for video making
  • The tutors make lessons fun, engaging and informative and are a great help
  • The HELM team helped with my academic writing
  • The course has allowed me to learn new skills that will be valuable in the workplace

Why B&FC?

On the second year of the foundation degree, I completed 100 hours work placement with a web and graphics company. This was a great experience and inspired and supported my decisions to progress to the honours year and then to get a job in web design. Earlier on this year we went on a team building trip to the Escape Room in Blackpool town centre. This was great fun and we got to mix with other students on the Interactive Media Development degree.

The feedback and assistance provided by the tutors during my dissertation helped make the process a lot easier and clearer, especially in the areas I found difficult such as my academic writing.
