Higher Education - Why Choose Us - Keen To Be Green

The College is committed to, and accepts its responsibility for, ensuring that it operates in a manner that is both supportive and protective of the environment. We have signed up to the Association of Colleges (AOC) and Environmental Association for Universities & Colleges (EAUC) ‘Green Colleges Declaration’ and are proud to be a Fairtrade College.

Recent initiatives to support sustainable development have included the appointment of a dedicated Sustainability Officer, the introduction of a College-wide car share scheme for staff and students and hosting our first Go Green Week to raise awareness of environmental issues and local charities as well as raise funds for the charity People and Planet.

The new University Centre is a fine example of environmental advancement, with initiatives such as our pro-cycling facilities and rainwater harvesting system having made us one of just a few institutions in the UK to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating for sustainable design and environmental performance, both pre- and post-construction. The Centre even has Lancashire’s first reverse-vend recycling machine.
