Higher Education - Why Choose Us - Campus Facilities

All of our campuses offer excellent learning resources with access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology. In addition, there’s a whole range of recreational facilities where you can let off steam plus numerous shops and eateries to make student life more convenient. Many of our facilities are open to the public, making the College an integral part of the town’s commercial and cultural life.

University Centre

Most of our higher education courses are run at our new University Centre in Central Blackpool, within easy reach of accommodation, shops, bars and the sea. This multimillion pound complex has provided higher education students with a dedicated campus, with the major teaching and support facilities conveniently converging at an attractive central courtyard. The stunning open plan Central Hub is a masterpiece of modern design and houses a refectory and chill-out zones along with access to student services and a state-of-the-art learning resource centre. The recently extended Theatre is the venue for numerous productions for all to enjoy. There is even a Gallery, a beautiful space that celebrates student achievement alongside works of other artists.

Bispham, Ansdell and Fleetwood Campuses

Courses in Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management, Construction, Computing, and Engineering and Automotive all run at our Bispham Campus. The Bispham Campus was recently the focus of an exciting £4m development project, resulting in a superb Hub that houses a central reception, vital student support functions and a convenient number of retail outlets all under the one roof. Only a few years ago, our Ansdell Campus underwent an extensive programme of refurbishment, making it one of the finest dedicated hair, beauty and related therapies facilities around. Our Fleetwood Campus is one of just a handful of centres in the country to offer Maritime Operations training, with some of the best facilities available in the sector.

Learning resource centres

In our learning resource centres we have a vast range of books and journals (with each centre’s resources reflecting the courses taught on that campus) plus online resources that you can access from home or, with our wireless network, elsewhere within the College. Within the centres you can use computers (plus Apple Macs at the University Centre), work with other students on a group project or study on your own in a quiet space. Throughout your course, you’ll find that the learning resource centres and their staff can play a key role in your success.

Food on campus

When you want to stay on campus, you’re well catered for. At the University Centre’s Central Hub refectory - Café Grads - you can sit down and tuck into a proper meal or just grab a bite and head to the chill-out area. There are of course refectories at our other campuses with Bispham Campus offering a number of additional eateries, including our acclaimed training restaurants Courtfields and Ashfield Brasserie – well worth a visit. There’s also a baker’s shop, Loafers. At all our campuses, there are plenty of vending points providing snacks on the go.

Sports facilities and College teams

Sports facilities are mainly based at the Bispham Campus where there is a sports hall, a climbing wall, an all-weather floodlit sports pitch and a brand new gym, Inspirations, with Fleetwood also having some facilities. We have numerous College teams, both men’s and women’s, with other available sports ranging from volleyball and five-aside football to table tennis and canoeing. Opportunities also exist for weekend trips to the Lake District for climbing and walking and to Scotland for skiing.

Enrichment activities

Our enrichment programme gives students the chance to take part in a wide variety of activities, make new friends and develop personally as a result. The activities are both sporting and educational and, wherever possible, link in to your programme of study for a more fulfilling learning experience. They’re open to everyone too. Our current offering includes activities as diverse as street dance, boxing, the College Choir and the Dead Good Poets’ Society.
