Some of you will know exactly which career is for you – maybe you’ve always dreamed about setting up your own business or working at some exotic location overseas. Others might only have a vague idea of the area they want to go into and if this is you, it’s important you start thinking about your career choices now. Whether you know what you want to do or not, the Careers Team can provide you with lots of advice and practical help to guide you towards a fulfilling career and help turn your dreams into reality.

  • Help with writing CVs, completing application forms and preparing for interviews.
  • A range of Careers library resources and access to internet-based resources, video resources and computer aided guidance packages.
  • Workshops on topics like making the right career move, effective applications and successful interviews.
  • Information about voluntary work in the UK and abroad, part-time employment while you study and graduate employment opportunities.
  • Ongoing support after you’ve left College.

What you can do

Remember, competition for jobs these days is extremely fierce. You don’t just need to be technically competent; you need to demonstrate good interpersonal and analytical skills too. Many of these skills you’ll develop naturally as you progress on your course but throwing yourself into student life will help too. Taking up a position with the SU, joining a sports team – things like these will add extra sparkle to your CV and help you to stand out from the crowd. So while you’re here, make the most of it!
