Employer viewpoint

“Across the period of my appointment as External Examiner for the PG/CE in Education (Post Compulsory) 2005-2009, I have enjoyed working with a dedicated and talented team of teacher educators and education managers, committed to improving standards of teaching, learning and achievement in this important area of education. The University Link tutor has been a valuable source of advice and support throughout the period of my appointment.

I found evidence of progressively deepening engagement with theory and literature alongside the refinement of careful and thoughtful practice as students progressed in their studies with the support of their tutors.”

Marie Louise Moore - Professional Graduate Certificate in Education, Post-compulsory (PGCE)

marie_moore.jpgI chose to study for the PGCE here based on my previous learning experiences, having already completed Level 5 and 6 Executive Diplomas in Management at the College. I had considered teaching as a significant change in my career path and my tutors at the time encouraged me to follow my ambition.

The teaching and learning provided at the College is such that the main focus is placed on the learner’s success – the support offered by all the teaching staff is first class. Group and one-to-one tutorials are a valuable tool, learning resources at the College are particularly extensive and equality and diversity is of paramount importance to the College values.

I have had the pleasure of teaching now for a short while, having secured my position only five days after graduating. I’d say teachers need to be patient, understanding and empathetic to students. Managing time efficiently and recognising that a teacher’s role is ever developing is important and perhaps the most important quality of all is a sense of humour!

The bonds and friendships that developed within the group will stay with me for a long time and made my experience particularly enjoyable. Everyone is made to feel appreciated for who they are and what they can bring. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!
