Abbas Farahmand - Masters Orals

abi_farramond.jpgI first came to Fleetwood Nautical Campus when I was just 16 years old. I did my cadetship and then went off to get some experience in the industry. I tried pretty much everything but offshore was my favourite area so I concentrated on that and I was made a Chief Officer at just 21 years old.

After seven years working, I returned to College to do my Chief Mates and now I’m back again to do my Masters Orals. A lot has changed since I was here first time round but it’s nice to see some of my original lecturers are still here.

I chose to study at Fleetwood as I grew up in Preston so it was a good location for me. It’s very academic – you can’t fault the tuition here and the facilities are great. At 16, I found it really instilled discipline in me. You wear uniform to class and the training approach was quite challenging – it really made you knuckle down.

I really enjoy my job. We sail across the English Channel from Dover to Calais; its really busy and there’s no time to get bored.
