Become a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology

Our Higher National Diplomas and degree programmes in Engineering are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, enabling successful students to seek professional registration with this body.

Amazing facilities

The School is home to Europe’s first Automotive Manufacturing Research and Development facility, featuring the chassis dynamometer Autodyn 30 (also known as a ‘Rolling Road’) and the Superflow SF902 engine dynamometer. Prospective engineers meanwhile can look forward to working with our Deckel Maho 5-Axis Machining Centre and a ZCorp Spectrum Z510 colour Rapid Prototyping facility.

Dream work placements

The College’s Automotive Systems Race Team took part recently in Round One of the Formula Renault FR2000 BARC Championship at the world famous Donnington Park – a first for a local college. The unprecedented link formed with Formula Renault has created a superlative opportunity for students.

College is industry favourite

The College is one of just four centres in the UK to deliver training courses for industry giant Ford Motor Company (in association with Skillnet Training). Our engineering client list is equally impressive, with employees of Leyland Truck, BAE Systems, British Nuclear Fuels and British Energy all enrolled on bespoke university education programmes.

Superior courses

We were recently awarded Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status for Automotive Manufacturing. The CoVE is a partnership of the North West’s premier automotive training providers and means the government rates our courses as among the best in the country.

Student opinion (Engineering)

Alumnus interview, Michael - Taylor Engineering
Michael_Taylor_Engineering_3.png Michael Taylor moved to Blackpool when he was five. Michael completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker and at 42, he is a Programme Manager for a multi-national engineering company.
“I’ve always seen myself as more of a practical than an academic person and I was seriously interested in going into nursing when I left school, but I eventually decided on engineering.
I didn’t do that well at school so I felt I had to prove I had the ability to study at a university level. So I came to Blackpool and The Fylde College and completed a BEng in Manufacturing and Production. My employers, Emcon, let me have time off work and they paid all my fees.
I’m now a Programme Manager and I’m responsible for overseeing the timing and delivery of engineering projects all over Europe. We produce vehicle exhaust and manifold systems and the design and the manufacture have to be delivered exactly on time.
Doing a degree certainly gave me the confidence to work at this level. It’s a lot of responsibility and you’ve got to be the sort of person who embraces responsibility and is not frightened by it.”
