Alumnus interview, Denise Cloherty - Foundation Degree in Literacies for Life

denise_cloherty.jpgI completed Level 2 courses in Maths and English and Level 3 Dyslexia in the Workplace in my early fifties, which was a fantastic achievement for me.

It was during this time that I took on the role of Union Learning Representative which gave me the opportunity to work with people like myself who wanted to gain some qualifications. My project coordinator Elizabeth Bullen told me about the Literacies for Life Foundation Degree and after plucking up enough courage I signed up for the course.

I really haven’t looked back since. I enjoy adult learning – it’s totally different from any of my experiences at school.

The course not only enhanced my academic skills but led me on a fascinating journey of the English language. I now have a wider knowledge of the problems many adults have when it comes to furthering their education and it’s taught me how to help them remove barriers and take away their fears and concerns about returning to education.

The tutors at College are friendly and they have a never-ending supply of patience. I also found College to be a friendly and enriching environment – they make everyone feel welcome.

I would recommend anybody thinking of enrolling on this course to go for it – you will enjoy it!
