Higher Education - Accommodation

A big part of moving away to study is finding the right place to live. As a holiday resort, Blackpool offers plenty of accommodation to choose from and our free accommodation service will help you to find somewhere that matches both your needs and your budget. We can also advise you about renting generally, which will make it easier for you to settle in.

Types of accommodation and typical costs

In Blackpool, student accommodation ranges from guest houses and self-catering flats to privately owned house shares. Our links with landlords/ladies are long established and most accommodation is located within easy reach of the College.

Self-catering accommodation

If you decide to rent a flat or a bedsit, you’ll have to buy and prepare your own food and pay for your gas and electricity (usually by meter). In a complex of flats, the landlord/lady will probably live there too, along with other students.
Cost: Around £70 to £80 per person per week

Room in a shared house

In a house share, you will have your own bedroom but share the rest of the house with other students (anything from 3, 5 and 6 depending on how big the house is). A lot of landlords ask for their rent termly and can offer inclusive rents (this means your bills are included). You’ll need to buy your own food as well.
Cost: Around £70 to £80 per person per week for the rent

Guest house accommodation

In a guest house, you’ll be living with the landlord/lady and be provided with a bedroom, breakfast and evening meal.
Cost: Around £25 per day

Hall of residence

This is based at our Fleetwood Campus and is for Maritime Operations students only.
Cost: Students have their accommodation paid for by their sponsor

Finding the right place

Once you’ve been accepted for a course, we’ll send you an accommodation pack which has lots of useful information in it. This is particularly useful if you are renting for the first time. We will also point you in the direction of our private registered landlords where you will be able to search for a property that suits your needs. If you need advice or guidance making your choice, our Accommodation Officer will be happy to help.
