The Scholarship and Research Development Scheme

About the Scheme

The Scholarship and Research Development Scheme (SRDS) was developed and piloted as part of the Teaching Quality Enhancement Project (TQEF) at Blackpool and The Fylde College. The scheme provides small grants for lecturers working at the College; supporting either subject, discipline based or pedagogic scholarship.

Subject Specific and Discipline Based Scholarship

Subject specific and discipline based scholarship are all about keeping abreast of developments and having in-depth contemporary knowledge of the subject field are essential to effective teaching in higher education.

Essential updating and reflection can be supported by activities such as:

  • Attending specialist conferences
  • Attending industry led updating courses
  • Engaging in extensive reading and research
  • Undertaking industry placement
  • Industry consultancy
  • Collaborative research with industrial partners
  • Experimental research
  • Employer engagement

Pedagogic Scholarship

Pedagogic scholarship is all about teaching and learning and the range of activities that encompass teaching and learning such as undertaking:

  • Curriculum design.
  • Teaching and supporting learning.
  • Assessment and giving feedback to learners.
  • Developing effective learning environments, student support and guidance.
  • Integrating subject research and professional activities.
  • Evaluation of practice and reflective professional development.
