Budding business brains

Connor Taylor, Oran Scanlan and Scott Smith with thier prototype

Published: Wednesday 25 May 2016

Three enterprising B&FC students have the opportunity to launch a useful new product on the market after wowing judges in a Dragons’ Den-style competition.

Oran Scanlan, Connor Taylor and Scott Smith are pioneering the Pintbox, a small locker for pub and club toilets where people can place their drinks to avoid both spillages and spiking.

The trio were among several groups of business studies students pitching to judges who included sponsors Santander and David Slater, Business Growth Manager from Blackpool Council.

Their reward includes a visit to Santander’s Incubator, a facility in Liverpool providing mentoring and support for start-up businesses, plus local support to get their enterprise off the ground.

Scott Smith said:

“The experience has been really valuable and we have been given lots of advice on how to improve things, like changing the name so it appeals to both sexes. We’re are also looking at how we can sell advertising space on them to increase revenue.”

Sarah Lonergan, University Relationship Branch Manager for Santander, commented:

“It was great seeing their commitment to the competition and also for us to see the up and coming talent of the future. I’m really pleased they all have the opportunity to visit the Incubator space and think this will grow them in their business journey.”
